Introduction

The first week has already passed here at the Centro (i.e. ICCS or Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Rome), and I have decided to create my own blog, that I might both share my experiences with others and reflect upon my semester as I study here in Rome.

This first post will hopefully acquaint you with the Centro and its surrounding area. We live on the Janiculum near Trastevere. The Centro has 36 students each semester from a number of different institutions (although the Centro is officially administered by Duke).

This is the common room area in which students regularly read, study, chat, and engage in other activities (such as puzzles and card games).

Here is one of two classrooms in the Centro. When the picture was taken, it was night, so there is a student studiously studying at the desk.

This is the Centro library, where two students are also working, a familiar sight.

This is the computer lab with, you guessed it, another student studying.

These are the stairs that students take to get to the other levels of the Centro. Living areas are on the second and third floors, the dining area is in the basement, but most importantly...
Foosball is on the fourth floor (along with weight machines, washing machines, drying racks, and another classroom).
Down one floor is where I live. This is the hallway. Notice the refrigerator.
And this is my room. It has a desk, sink, bed, nightstand, radiator, and chair, along with a lovely map of the forum Romanum.
In future entries, I will try to discuss other things, such as our on-site lectures, class material, social activities, travel, and other interesting things. If you would like some more general information on the Centro here are some links:
